Perhaps no team was hit harder to graduation this year than South Plainfield. The 2019 Group 2 Champions graduated 10 starters; among them were 7 State Tournament participants. You don't win 16 Sectional Titles and 12 Group Titles by going through extended down-time rebuilds though, so while the Tigers don't have a single senior in the wrestling room, they are still, once again, the team to beat in their Section. They took some lumps in the regular season to some of this year's State powers, but all of that should have them sharpened for the chance to successfully defend their Sectional Title at home.

For Rumson, it is their first trip to the Sectional Finals. The season prior to head coach Bryan Heller taking over the program, the Bulldogs had 11 wrestlers in the room, and were often forfeiting six weights in duals. In year 7 of his tenure, he has the program just one win away from capturing their first ever State Sectional Title.

Just hearing South Plainfield vs. Rumson in a Sectional Final makes you automatically assume their will be a huge experience edge to the Tigers in a match with the stakes this high, but a good portion of the Tigers' lineup will also be competing in their first postseason final due to last year's team being stacked with seniors. The big edge for SP though will be having that home mat advantage. South Plainfield is always a tough gym to compete in, so it bears watching to see how the Bulldogs react in that environment.

Despo: I said in January I thought Rumson was going to win this thing, so I'm sticking with the Bulldogs in the upset!
