2017 DISTRICT 22 PREVIEW
DISTRICT 22 @ Howell
Teams: Allentown, Ewing, Howell, Jackson Liberty, Lawrence, Neptune, Northern Burlington, Riverside, Robbinsville, St Rose
106: Allentown's standout freshmen Joey Lamparelli earned the top-seed here after a 30-1 regular season, in what looks to be a Top 3 that is going to be awfully tough to break. At #2 is NB's Travis Kotelnicki, who is coming off a 30-3 regular season. Howell's Jesse Liptzin received the #3 seed. He faced both Lamparelli and Kotelnicki this season, losing 3-1 to Lamparelli and by fall to Kotelnicki.
113: #1 Josh Bollard of Jackson Liberty, a junior, is kind of the elder statesman of this group, as the rest of the weight consists of all frosh and sophomores. If the seeds hold, Bollard would face #4 Ellery Perfect of NB, whom he defeated 2-0 a few weeks ago. Howell's Luke Rada is the #2, and also holds a pinfall victory over Perfect.
120: #1 Darby Diedrich of Howell is a returning District champ, and advanced to AC last year after a 3rd place finish st R6. The 2-seed, Logan Fox of Robbinsville, a 2-time D25 champ, already hold a pinfall victory over his potential semis opponent, #3 Gino Giacolona.
126: Howell junior Kyle Slendorn is a 2-time D21 champ, and has twice qualified for the State Tournament. He'll be a big favorite here in a pretty deep field where the Top 6 seeds are all over .500.
132: #1 Daniel Esposito of Howell was a 3rd-place finisher in D21 last year. #2 Brent Grocott was 2nd in D25 last season, and was one win short of a medal at R7. The next three seeds were seperated by a total of three points, with Justin Featherston of Lawrence at #3, Northern Burlington's Devin Lippincott at #4, and Liberty's Shaun Plaza at #5.
138: Top-seeded Vincent Hellthaler of Northern Burlington, the lone senior of this group, is a returning state-qualifier who won the D25 title and placed 2nd in R7 in 2016. He'll be the favorite here in a group that also includes #2 Evan Richard of Howell, #3 Drew Romein of Allentown, and #4 Cairo Henderson Stewart of Neptune, a 3rd place finisher in D23 last season.
145: #1 Garrett Bilgrav of Robbinsville, who placed 3rd in D25 last season, holds a major decision over #2 Ryan Feig of Northern Burlington, and a pinfall over #3 John McElroy of Riverside. If the seeds hold, it sets up a potential interesting semifinal bout between Bilgrav and the battle tested #4 Xavier Kelly of Howell.
152: Ewing grabs a top-seed here with unbeaten junior Lavinsky Collins. The rest of the field is pretty open here with #2 Anthony Giampietro of Northern Burlington at #2, #3 Nick Sulkowski of Howell, #4 Zachary Bilgrav of Robbinsville, and #5 John Kuchar of Allentown.
160: Howell's Christian Murphy jumped Kyle Twamley (3rd D25 in 2016) of Robbinsville for the #1 seed on the strength of a pinfall victory in the Rebels dual against the Ravens back in mid-January. Twamley majored his potential semifinal opponent, #3 Nolan Pecci of Allentown, previously.
170: Howell's standout frosh, Shane Reitsma, enters the Districts at a perfect 32-0. Among those wins is a pinfall victory over #2 Liam McDermott of Allentown (1st D25 last year), which is his lone loss of the season. There will be a revenge theme here for McDermott, but there is work to be done with the rest of the field first that includes #3 Northern Burlington sophomore Tommy Hill (24-8), #4 Kris Kertenis (14-10) of Lawrence, #5 Ariel Carreno (21-8) of Riverside, and #6 Felipe Garcia (14-8) of Neptune.
182: Zeke Brinson of Riverside, the lone senior in this weight, enters the tournament as 30-bout winner and the top seed. He pinned his way to the D26 Title a year ago, and will be the favorite here. At #2 is Chavis Coleman of Jackson Liberty, who quietly picked up some solid wins for the Lions this season. The only other two +500 wrestlers here are at #3 with Nicholas Campbell of Allentown and #4 Saint Phard Bellamy of Neptune.
195: Neptune's Nick Faber (19-1), a runner-up in D23 last season, grabbed the top seed over #2 Steven Truex of Northern Burlington, a 33-1 senior who placed 3rd in D25 last year. Truex already holds a 9-0 win over his potential semis opponent, #3 Kevin Rae of Riverside, while Faber will get the winner of #4 Danny Schick of Howell vs #5 Dino Panfili of Lawrence.
220: Howell's Eric Keosseian is the sizable favorite here. He finished last post-season with an 8th place medal in Atlantic City to go with a R6 and D21 title. Keosseian already holds a 10-2 major over #2 Chris Ratti of Northern Burlington, further solidifying his status as the big favorite here.
Hwt: Howell's Jacob Nash is the top seed, and picked up two narrow wins over the next two seeds here with a 2-1 TB win over #2 William Nolan of Northern Burlington and a 3-1 SV win over #3 Keven Jean of Neptune.
