2017 DISTRICT 25 PREVIEW

DISTRICT 25 @ Holy Cross

CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS TO HOLY CROSS

SCHEDULE

Quarters: 5:00pm (Friday)
Semis: 10:00am
Finals: 3:00pm

Teams: Audobon, Camden Catholic, Cherokee, Haddon Heights, Holy Cross, Jackson Memorial, Moorestown, Seneca, Sterling

Since they're the only Shore team here, we'll just focus on the Jags.

106: (So) Vin Scollo - 4th Seed (27-2)
Odd that Jackson went from D21, that was typically loaded at 106, and moved into a new District that is loaded at 106. Scollo will open with Cherokee's Andrew Aromando, who he defeated 9-3 in a dual back in December. A win there, and he's lined up with top-seeded Chase Mullarkey of Holy Cross, a D26 champ and State qualifier in 2016.

113: (So) Chris McDonald - 5th Seed (14-11)
Another loaded weight, and if McDonald is to get out of it, he will have certainly earned it. He'll open with #4 Dante Monaco of Camden Catholic, a highly talented freshman coming off a 21-5 regular season. The winner of that one gets top-seed Joe Manchio of Sterling, a 2-time D27 and R7 Champ, and 2016 State Champ at 106.

120: (Sr) Jeremiah Nash - 2nd Seed (17-7)
Camden Catholics' Lucas Revano (6th place in NJ in 2016 at 113) is the top seed here. For Nash to get a crack at Revano, he'll have to first win his opener against #7 Jagger Krause of Haddon Heights, and then most likely #3 JT Lumley of Moorestown, a 25-9 junior who has twice finished 4th in his District.

126: (So) Carsten Digiantomasso - 4th Seed (13-6)
Another scary weight. Digiantomasso opens with another one of Camden Catholic's talented frosh in #5 Harrison Hinojosa (20-14). The winner of that one is lined up for a meeting with top-seeded Ryan Manahan of Cherokee, a 4th place finisher in R7 last year.

132: (Sr) Matt McGowan - Top Seed (27-2)
McGowan will be a heavy favorite to advance to the finals through his half of the bracket. If the seeds hold as expected, McGowan could face #2 Anthony Croce of Camden Catholic, a State-qualifier in 2016 after winning D27 and placing 2nd in R7.

138: (Jr) Ryan Bohringer - 5th Seed (13-11)
The Jags are matched up with yet another one of CC's regarded frosh as Bohringer draws #4 Brandon Mooney (23-12). The winner of that one has a likely meeting with #1 Nicholas Moffa of Cherokee, a D27 champion in 2016.

145: (Jr) Nicholas Tomasiello - 7th Seed (13-12)
There was a lot of jumping of seeds here due to head to head wins. As a result, Tomasiello will open with the original #5 seed, #2 Robert Damerjian of Moorestown, a 7-17 freshman. The winner will get the winner of #3 Beau Bruneau of Holy Cross (3rd D26) and #6 Cameron Buckingham of Sterling.

152: (Sr) Tim Hamann - 2nd Seed (18-7)
This will be a tough top 3 for the rest of the field to break. Hamann will be heavily favored in his opener. His likely semis opponent would be #3 Mike Schneider of Sterling, a 20-11 junior. The top-seed here is Avery Dinardi of Holy Cross, a 3-time State-qualifier who placed 6th at 152 last year.

160: (Fr) Kyle Epperly - 6th Seed (11-8)
Epperly, who has had some key wins for the Jags this year, draws #3 Mike Mancini (13-11) of Haddon Heights in his opener. The winner would most likely get #2 Shawn Kiraly (20-15) of Seneca. The bottom bracket here is a pretty even field, so the opportunity is here for Epperly to make a run out of the 6th spot.

170: (Sr) Dan Bergeron - 3rd Seed (19-4)
Bergeron opens with #6 Harry Savio of Sterling, a 10-17 senior. A win there and he's most likely getting #2 Thomas Deutsch, who placed 3rd in D27 last season at 160.

182: (So) Leo Shimonovich - 4th Seed (4-10)
This is one of the smaller fields here with just 7 wrestlers, only two of them at over .500. Shimonovich opens with #5 Shawn Brennan (6-22) of Audobon. The winner will face the top-seed, sophomore Jeremy Nutt of Camden Catholic (27-8).

195: (Sr) Frank Fowler-Umana - 6th Seed (2-12)
Umana has a tough draw out of the gate in Camden Catholic's Anthony Blattenberger (20-8). The winner gets #2 Liam Casey of Seneca, a 25-9 senior.

220: (Jr) David Lemay - 4th Seed (27-3)
Lemay should be a strong favorite to win his 4/5 opener against Tavis Baylor of Sterling. After that would be a matchup with the #1 seed, Robert Livshits of Cherokee, a D27 champ at 220 last year. The 2-seed here is Cameron Greene (26-2) of Audobon who finished 3rd in D28 last year, while the 3-seed is 16-5 sophomore Dakota Souder. A very heavy top 4 here that should put on a great battle.

Hwt: (Jr) Devin Martinez - 6th Seed (0-0)
Only six wrestlers are entered in this bracket, and Martinez, who is making his debut, drew the final seed. He opens with #3 Chris Hauske, a 20-bout winner from Audobon, with the winner slated to face the undefeated #2 Lamar Price of Sterling.
